MES MICROS TRADE PLAN
Blood on the Chart — Trade Location, Triple Taps, and Friday Discipline
Posted: Thursday April 2, 2026
Thursday’s AM Briefing covered a bearish, high-volatility session with blood on the chart across the board — all instruments below previous day lows, under declining VWAPs, and at 100% net short overnight inventory. Micros Trader reviewed multiple Battle Plan trade setups from the prior sessions, including two mapped short zones, the triple-tap breakeven rule in action, and a clean 20-point RTH long off a Strong Level. With oil surging over 14% and a long weekend ahead, the message was clear: Friday rules apply, scalps only, no holding runners over the weekend, and seriously restrict your number of entries. Strong Levels continued to perform beautifully throughout the session, validating the Battle Plan’s core framework for ES and MES futures trading.
Battle Plan Trade Reviews
Two shorts were mapped in the same zone — a rare setup, but the chart location justified it. Battle Plan 2 and Battle Plan 3 were reviewed: BP3 required rapid, strong laddering back price action to reclaim a specific named level before a long was considered. That laddering never came. Instead, price moved down with monster candles, filling into the prior Monday VPOC. Caleb was short coming into the session, and the group discussed his position — the three-contract system with a peel-peel-runner approach was the ideal execution model for that move. The V POC from Monday was the profit target, and price made it there cleanly.
Micros Trader’s Trades
Battle Plan 4 produced two trades. The first was an overnight long at a key level — price went up more than 10 points, came back without a fill, went up again, came back a third time. That third tap triggered the breakeven rule: when price gives you a triple tap, you take the gift of breakeven. “Make price come to you. No prediction trading.” The second trade was an RTH long directly off the Strong Level at the open. Entry held, price laddered back above the level, stop was moved underneath the strong range, and a clean 20-pointer was captured. Runner was followed briefly — no size added given market conditions.
Market Conditions
This was a heavy session. Every instrument was below previous day lows. All below declining VWAPs. Net short overnight inventory was essentially 100%. The market had traversed nine Strong Levels to the downside — a number Micros Trader tracks specifically. Oil surged over 14% during the session. Bitcoin was moving sharply as well. Big candles, 10-point bars on the ES, back-and-forth action through the RTH open. Gap fill was not on the table — not even close to the target zone. The half-back of the big move was cited as an aspirational upside target, but only with a monster headline catalyst. The bias: watch out below.
Friday and Long Weekend Rules
Going into a long weekend with elevated macro volatility, the rules tighten considerably. Every long is a scalp — no exceptions. There is no scenario where holding a runner over the weekend makes sense here. Target zone was the area just above the current range; if price reclaimed Strong Levels on the way up, stops would follow behind each one. Micros Trader locked his 20-pointer and closed the platform. For others still in trades: follow your runner at 50%, take whatever you get, and do not throw a fit. Big candles mean big opportunity but also big risk — small and strategic is the only approach.
One-and-Done Philosophy
On high-volatility days like this one, Micros Trader made the case for the one-and-done entry philosophy: pick your mapped Battle Plan trade, wait for it, take it once, and walk. Research shows that beyond a certain number of trades, daily P&L does not improve — in fact, the accumulation of emotional decisions creates real blowup risk. One entry. Wait for it. Whether it’s a winner, loser, or draw, you are done for the session. This discipline, applied consistently, is one of the most underrated edge improvements available to retail futures traders.
Strong Levels Performance
Strong Levels continued to perform throughout this session — bouncing price, acting as magnets, and providing clean entry and stop placement reference points. Micros Trader noted that dropping to a lower timeframe and running the session on replay is one of the best ways to see just how precisely price interacts with these levels. Nine Strong Levels were traversed on the way down. The RTH long entry was taken directly off a Strong Level. Stops were managed behind Strong Levels throughout. The Battle Plan’s core edge is built on these levels — knowing where you are on the chart is the whole purpose.
“You know how scary it was to publish my Strong Levels the first few times?”
What is the triple-tap rule in futures trading?
A: The triple-tap rule means when price returns to your entry level a third time without following through, you take the gift of breakeven and exit the trade. The first and second return can be managed; by the third, the trade location is no longer working in your favor. There is always another trade around the corner — protecting capital beats holding on.
What are Friday rules for trading ES and MES futures?
A: Friday rules mean treating every long as a scalp, severely restricting the number of entries, and never holding a runner over the weekend. On long weekends with elevated macro volatility, the risk of overnight gap moves is too high to justify holding positions. Lock in your profit, close your platform, and come back fresh.
What is the one-and-done trading philosophy?
A: One-and-done means you plan one trade per session, wait for your mapped Battle Plan setup, take it, and stop regardless of outcome — win, loss, or scratch. Beyond a certain number of trades, daily P&L does not improve, and emotional decision-making compounds risk. This philosophy improves consistency and protects against overtrading on volatile days.
How does the three-contract system work for futures trades?
A: The three-contract system involves entering with three contracts, peeling the first at a pre-determined target, peeling the second at a second target, and holding the third as a single runner. This allows you to lock in profit on the move while keeping exposure for a potential extended run. The runner is managed with a trailing stop behind Strong Levels.
What does it mean when price has traversed nine Strong Levels?
A: Tracking how many Strong Levels price has moved through gives context for how extended a directional move is. After traversing nine Strong Levels to the downside, the market has covered significant ground and the risk/reward for additional shorts deteriorates while potential reversal setups begin to merit attention. It is a reference point for trade location awareness.
Why does trade location matter more than direction prediction?
A: Trade location determines whether you are entering a setup where the structure supports your trade or fighting the chart. Knowing you are at a Strong Level, a VPOC, a trend line back-test, or a half-back level tells you that other traders are watching the same area — that confluence increases the probability that price will react. Prediction trading without location awareness is gambling.
What should you do when oil is up 14% during an ES futures session?
A: Elevated commodity volatility like a 14% oil move signals macro instability that tends to create big, fast candles across futures markets. In this environment, the correct response is to reduce position size, focus on the most obvious Battle Plan levels only, follow runners at 50% rather than targeting fixed exits, and accept that not every day requires a full session of trading.
How do you manage a runner in a high-volatility session?
A: In high-volatility conditions, follow your runner at 50% — meaning move your stop to trail the move at roughly half the distance it has traveled. Avoid setting a hard target because extended moves can blow through levels fast, but reversals are equally sharp. Whatever you make, make it. Don’t throw a fit over missing extra points. Get what you get and protect it.
What is the purpose of the AM Briefing in the Micros Trader Battle Plan system?
A: The AM Briefing is a live pre-market session where Micros Trader reviews overnight price action, recaps Battle Plan trade setups, identifies key levels for the upcoming RTH session, and sets the bias for the day. It gives traders the context they need before the open — where the strong levels are, whether conditions favor longs or shorts, and what trade location to watch for. Together we trade better.
