MES MICROS TRADE PLAN

Trade Location Over Trade Frequency: Three Scratches, Zero Regrets

Posted: Tuesday May 20, 2026

☀️ AM BRIEFING

Today’s session delivered a masterclass in one of the most important skills in ES futures trading: knowing when not to trade. The MES micro futures trade plan had the right locations all morning — halfback, bottom of the strong range, trend line retest — but fast, irrational price action made execution nearly impossible. Three scratches, a platform closed at the right time, and a stand-down call when three consecutive 15-point candles hit. A new weekly range is now confirmed: 7362 to 7449, with the bull-bear line sitting dead center. NVIDIA reports after the close. The message for today’s ES futures daily trade setups is clear — patience is the trade.

Yesterday’s Battle Plan: Three Trades, All Three Worked

Before the open, George walked through yesterday’s three Battle Plan trades in detail. The plan mapped every key location. All three trades played out.

  • Battle Plan Apex Trade: Price ran 17 points. George called for members to capture at least 10. Clean execution at a mapped level.
  • Range Break Short: Price cleared the upper level. George called for a scratch if it came back — it didn’t. The short hit target for 30 points. A single runner was kept in case of extension, but nothing followed beyond target.
  • Battle Plan 3 Long: George felt confident enough to place three orders going long at BP3. He took the trade twice and scratched both times — not willing to accept a loss. Price then ran 50 points without him. The level was exactly right. The frustration wasn’t about the system.

The Battle Plan identified the correct locations. All three worked. The challenge was execution in a tappy, retest-heavy price action environment — not the plan itself.

Trader Lesson 1

The Battle Plan identifies locations — not guarantees. When you’re in the right spot and the trade doesn’t cooperate, that’s not a system failure. Honor your stop, take the scratch, and trust the next setup.

The Accumulation of Emotions: Recognizing It Before It Controls You

George was honest about yesterday: he felt the accumulation of emotions building in real time. Up 10 points multiple times, then back to scratch. A 40-point short missed at POC. A 50-point long missed after scratching at BP3. He felt it — and it didn’t affect his trading. That’s the goal.

  • What Is Emotional Accumulation? It’s not one bad moment. It’s the buildup — multiple near-misses, frustrating retests, entries that look right and then don’t hold. Each event adds to a running emotional total. When that total gets high enough, decision-making degrades.
  • The Spock Problem: You cannot trade with zero emotion. That’s not realistic. The skill isn’t eliminating emotion — it’s recognizing when the accumulation has reached a dangerous level.
  • The Diagnosis: George called it “running a high fever.” A sick trader who keeps trading is like a sick player who keeps playing — you’re not helping anyone. Sometimes you pull yourself off the floor. Sometimes you don’t have to. But you must be vigilant in the diagnosis.
  • The Community Value: One of the underrated benefits of trading in a group is seeing a respected trader acknowledge frustration honestly — while still demonstrating how to walk away. That’s trading education you can’t get from a book.

Trader Lesson 2

Monitor your emotional accumulation the same way you monitor your trade locations. The question isn’t “am I frustrated right now” — it’s “how much has built up over this session?” Make the call early. Not after the damage is done.

The New Range: 7362 to 7449 — Range Rules Now Rule

George proposed a new weekly range earlier in the week. Last night’s price action confirmed it. Triple tap at the 73.60 strong level overnight — defended, defended, defended — then price laddered back. That’s the bottom. The top is 7449. The range is confirmed, and it changes how you trade the rest of the week.

  • The Range: 7362 (bottom strong level) to 7449 (top strong level) — approximately 87 points wide.
  • The Bull-Bear Line: Sitting dead center of the range. That makes it the highest-traffic, lowest-conviction zone on the chart. Like POC — price goes there to rest. Trading in the middle of a range is low-probability almost by definition.
  • Range Rules: When a range is established, George trades only the edges. Long near 7362. Short near 7449. Engagement in the middle is off the table.
  • NVIDIA After the Close: The single most important factor today. NVIDIA earnings could move ES 200–300 points in either direction. The Battle Plan may be delayed until after the print. Build nothing large into the close.
NVIDIA reports after the close. The Battle Plan may be delayed until after the earnings print. Do not carry large positions into tonight.

Trader Lesson 3

When you’re in the middle of a range with the bull-bear line as the magnet, you don’t need a trade — you need patience. Wait for price to reach an edge. The middle is where the market rests. Let it rest.

The 15-Point Candle Rule: When Irrational Price Action Says Stop

After three scratches, George closed his platform. Done for the session. Then the market did something nobody was positioned for — three consecutive 15-point candles on a 3-minute chart, culminating in a 47-point candle on the 30-minute chart. Not a setup. Not a level. Irrational.

  • The Rule: When three or more 15-point candles print in rapid succession on a 3-minute chart, Core Strategy says stop trading. There is no rational entry, no clean stop, no Battle Plan level to lean on. You cannot size correctly. You cannot manage the trade.
  • What Caused It: George believes it was NVIDIA pre-positioning — traders not wanting to be short into a potential explosive earnings print. The market didn’t give a warning. It just went.
  • The Right Response: Stand down. Flat is a position. In this session, it was the smartest one available. Three scratches earlier looked like failure in the moment. In retrospect, they kept George out of a trade that had no rational stop loss.
  • The 30-Minute View: A 47-point candle on a 30-minute chart. When that prints, the only question is: am I glad I’m flat? The answer is always yes.

Trader Lesson 4

Three consecutive 15-point candles on a 3-minute chart is your signal to stop. Irrational price action is not your price action. You trade rational levels with rational stops — when that’s no longer possible, flat is the trade.

Three Scratches, an A in Discipline, and the Trade That Wasn’t Yours

George took three scratches and closed his platform before the big move. He missed a 50-point long from yesterday’s BP3. He missed the 15-point candle explosion today. He graded himself an A — and meant it.

  • Scratches Are Not Failures: Each scratch came at the right location — the halfback, the bottom of the strong range, the trend line retest. The entries were right. The price action was too fast and the range environment too middle to hold. Scratching protected capital. That is a result.
  • Grade Yourself Mid-Session: George gave himself an A in discipline and results while still live on stream. His reasoning: once you claim the grade, you create internal pressure to keep it. It’s not just journaling — it’s real-time performance management.
  • Two Separate Grades: Discipline and results score independently. You can have a terrible P&L and still earn an A in discipline. You can also have a great P&L and an F in discipline through overtrading, chasing, and revenge entries. Know which grade you’re actually earning.
  • It Wasn’t Your Move: The 15-point candle explosion offered no rational entry, no stop, no Battle Plan level. If a move doesn’t come to you on your terms, it was never your trade to begin with.

Trader Lesson 5

Grade yourself mid-session, not just at the end. Discipline and results are two separate scores. If a move doesn’t come to you at your level, on your terms, with a rational stop — it was never your trade to begin with.

“It moved without me. It wasn’t my move on my terms.”

❓ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

COMMON QUESTIONS FOR ES FUTURES TRADERS

What is the new weekly range George confirmed and how does it change trading strategy?

A: George confirmed a new weekly range for ES futures between 7362 and 7449 — approximately 87 points wide. The range was validated by a triple overnight tap at the 73.60 strong level, which held as the bottom. When a range is established, Micros Trader trades only the edges: look for longs near 7362 and shorts near 7449. Engaging in the middle — especially with the bull-bear line sitting dead center — is a low-probability environment. Range rules now override all other bias.

What is the 15-Point Candle Rule and when does it trigger a stand-down?

A: When three or more 15-point candles print in rapid succession on a 3-minute ES futures chart, Core Strategy calls for an immediate stop to trading. These candles signal irrational price action — movement driven by news, positioning events, or a cascade of stops rather than clean level interaction. There is no rational entry point, no appropriate stop loss, and no Battle Plan level to lean on. The correct response is to go flat and stand down. Today, three consecutive 15-point candles were followed by a 47-point candle on the 30-minute chart.

What does accumulation of emotions mean in trading, and how do you manage it?

A: Emotional accumulation is the buildup of frustration, missed trades, and near-misses over the course of a session — not one bad moment, but the running total. George compares it to running a high fever: you don’t wait until you collapse to recognize you’re sick. The skill is in diagnosing the buildup early and deciding whether to step off the trading floor before decision-making degrades. You cannot eliminate emotion from trading, but you can monitor its accumulation and act on it proactively.

What is the bull-bear line and why is it a problem when it sits in the middle of a range?

A: The bull-bear line is the key dividing level between bullish and bearish bias on the ES futures chart. It acts as a magnet — price is constantly drawn back to it, similar to the Point of Control (POC). When the bull-bear line sits dead center of a confirmed range, it creates a double-magnet effect: both the range midpoint and the bull-bear line occupy the same zone. This makes the area an extremely low-probability environment for entering trades. Price tests, taps, and reverses repeatedly without directional follow-through.

What is the halfback level and why was it a trade location today?

A: The halfback is the midpoint of the prior session’s range. It’s one of the most consistent levels in ES futures day trading because institutions reference it for mean-reversion and continuation decisions. Today, when price pushed down toward the halfback after the RTH open, it created the first viable long opportunity — bulls in control, price pulling back to a clean reference. George took the long, placed his stop at break-even, and scratched when price did not immediately follow through.

How should traders handle a major catalyst like NVIDIA earnings after the close?

A: Reduce position size as the catalyst approaches. Avoid building new positions into the close. The Battle Plan may be delayed until after the earnings print, since a 200–300 point move in either direction could invalidate pre-set levels. If you made money in the morning session, consider calling it done for the day and waiting for the market to digest the news before re-engaging. Large earnings from major index-weight stocks can override all technical levels.

What does “Bulls control, shorts are counter, small if at all” mean?

A: This is Micros Trader’s core session bias statement. “Bulls control” means the primary trend favors the long side — the path of least resistance is up. “Shorts are counter” means any short trade is against the dominant trend, making it a lower-probability, contrarian play. “Small if at all” is the risk management directive: if you do take a counter-trend short, size down significantly to account for the reduced odds. George repeated this throughout the session as a reminder not to chase the short side when the overall bias remains bullish.

Why did George take three scratches and still grade himself an A for the session?

A: A scratch trade — breaking even — is capital protection, not a failure. George took each scratch at the correct trade location. The entries were right. The price action was too fast and the range environment too middle-heavy to hold. By scratching, he avoided losses in a low-probability zone. He graded himself an A in discipline mid-session because his decision-making was sound throughout. In ES futures trading, protecting your capital in a difficult environment is a result in itself.

What is the three-contract system and what role does the lotto runner play?

A: The three-contract system is Micros Trader’s core position sizing framework. You enter with three contracts: the first is your money contract — taken off quickly at an initial target around 10 points. The second captures the main move to the primary target. The third is the lotto runner — kept with a trailing stop to capture any extended move. The lotto runner is speculative by design: low odds, high reward. Traders who got long at the halfback today and held a lotto runner could have captured a significant portion of the later explosion — even without knowing it was coming.
