A drawdown is a losing stretch that pulls your account below its recent high. In ES E-mini futures it shows up as red days that pile up, confidence that starts to wobble, and the quiet voice asking if you’re cut out for this. George’s core teaching cuts through the panic: a fall is not defeat. You can stumble without being cast down. Recovery comes from returning to disciplined process.

From the tape · May 26, 2026

“Verse of the day, ‘Though he falls, he shall not be cast down.’ Drawdowns are not defeat.”

This page gathers everything George teaches about drawdown across hundreds of hours of live ES and MES micro futures trading… why the loss is only half the damage, how to tell a fall from ruin, and the honest path back to your feet after a losing streak.

01

Drawdown Is Financial and Emotional

Most traders track drawdown on the account statement alone. George coaches the other half. When your equity dips, your emotions dip with it… and the emotional drawdown does the real account damage. You have to manage both.

From the tape · Nov 12, 2025

“When you are in draw down, and I’m not only talking profit and loss, I’m talking about mentally and emotionally.”

Picture a gauge for your mental state. When it runs red, your judgment goes with it. That’s the moment revenge trades get placed, size gets doubled, and small red days snowball into blown accounts. George’s rule: when the gauge reads red, protect the account by protecting yourself first.

From the tape · Nov 12, 2025

“When you are in draw down, when your emotions, if I could measure it, is red, you’ve got to manage that draw down properly.”

The financial fix is simple discipline. Honor your daily loss limit, size so no single trade can hurt you, and know when to Stand Down. The emotional fix takes more honesty. That’s the rest of this page.

02

How You Handle the Small Days Decides Everything

Winning trades feel easy. Anybody can hold it together on a green day. The separation happens on the red ones. George says it flat out… the small drawdown day is the fork in the road.

From the tape · Nov 12, 2025

“So the difference between traders who make it and traders who don’t is how do you handle the small draw down days?”

Why do so many wash out? The drawdown feeling. It gets uncomfortable, and the untrained trader reaches for the account to make the discomfort stop. That reach is what blows the account.

From the tape · Nov 12, 2025

“Most traders can’t handle the draw down feeling and they blow accounts.”

The market guarantees these stretches. George never sugarcoats it. Perfect-looking trades will evaporate in front of you, and the market will knock you down again and again.

From the tape · Dec 8, 2025

“The futures market will knock you down. Not once, not twice, but repeatedly. You’ll take losses that will shake your confidence.”

Expect it and the blow lands soft. George’s advice from a rough March session… come into the day knowing conditions are hard, and a bad open won’t crush your mental game. “Just don’t allow that to crush your mental game. You come into it knowing it’s rough trading conditions, well that’s good” (Mar 20, 2025). And whatever system you run, understand the ground rule: “whether you’re in my system or not, all trading is hard” (Nov 22, 2025).

03

A Fall Is Not the Same as Ruin

Here’s where traders get it twisted. They treat every stop-out like a catastrophe. One red day feels like the end of the road. That mindset burns you out fast.

From the tape · May 3, 2026

“Here’s where traders get it twisted. They treat every stop like it’s a catastrophic failure.”

Learn to tell the two apart. A normal loss is a stumble. Total ruin is a headlong fall into destruction. They are not the same event, and confusing them is what turns a manageable drawdown into a quit.

From the tape · May 3, 2026

“There’s a massive difference between falling and being cast headlong into destruction. A righteous person will stumble, will fall, but won’t be utterly destroyed because God’s hand is underneath them.”

A stop-out inside your planned risk is a fall. You get up and take the next Battle Plan level. Ruin comes from breaking rules… oversizing, revenge trading, blowing past your loss limit. Falls are survivable by design. Learn to take losses like a professional and the drawdown loses its teeth.

04

Most Quit Right Before the Breakthrough

Perseverance in futures trading is the whole game. The trader who reads every drawdown as failure eventually walks away. The trader who reads it as a test keeps building.

From the tape · Jun 28, 2026

“In futures trading, perseverance isn’t optional. It’s the difference between those who make it and those who blow accounts.”

Reframe the drawdown and the whole thing changes. See it as a failure and you quit. See it as a test and you grow the discipline that separates the pros from the amateurs.

From the tape · Jun 28, 2026

“But the trader who sees each challenge as a test, well, they are building discipline. They’re developing the mental fortitude that separates professionals from amateurs.”

The market has one way to beat you. You stop showing up. Persist and the drawdown becomes a chapter. Quit and it becomes the ending. “The market only beats those who stop showing up” (Apr 15, 2026). And the cruel part? So many walk away one trade too early.

From the tape · May 15, 2026

“Trader wisdom. Most people give up right before they break through. You won’t.”

Give the skill time to develop. George reminds a two-month member that the timeline runs in years. “In two months is no time to evaluate whether or not you are going to become a successful trader” (Nov 22, 2025). Trading is a craft like trim carpentry, painting, or programming. Nobody learns those in a weekend, and nobody should judge their trading career from the bottom of an early drawdown. That patience is a core theme in how long it takes to learn day trading.

05

Change Comes Through Pain

George is honest about how traders actually improve. Real change rarely comes from a clever tip. It comes from suffering the same mistake until you finally get sick of it. The bad trade you keep taking, the one you know you shouldn’t… you’ll repeat it until the pain outweighs the pull.

From the tape · May 31, 2026

“If you’re suffering and not willing to do anything about it, you need to suffer more. Suffer until you get sick of it.”

That sounds harsh. It’s mercy. George names it plainly… “every real change in my trading life and your trading life will come probably from pain” (June 1, 2026). The drawdown is the teacher. It keeps handing you the same lesson until you take it.

From the tape · Jun 10, 2026

“Eventually one day you get sick and tired of being sick and tired of being sick and tired of your horrible trading behavior and you either quit or you change. And then it becomes easy.”

There’s the crossroads. Get fed up enough and you either quit or you change. Choose change, and the trading that felt impossible starts to feel easy. If something you’re doing blows your account, stop. One-line prescription: “If you’re doing something that blows your account, stop” (June 10, 2026). Logging that repeated mistake in a trading journal is how you speed the reckoning.

06

Back On Your Feet: The Way Out of Drawdown

Falling is not the end of the story. George climbs out of drawdown the same way every time… he returns to the process. No hero trade. No doubling up. Just disciplined execution off the Battle Plan until his lane comes back.

From the tape · Feb 26, 2026

“Straight out of draw down. Back on my feet. Took some hits. Yeah, I know that pain, but the process — hell, I found my lane.”

Recovery often arrives one clean trade at a time. A single win that redeems yesterday’s loser rebuilds the account and the confidence together. George treats each one as a gift. “So, I redeemed my six-point loser from yesterday in this trade. Thank you, Lord” (May 16, 2026). Forget winning it all back today. All you need is one good rep on the process.

Put it together and the drawdown playbook is short. Manage the emotional side first. Tell a fall from ruin. See the challenge as a test. Keep showing up. Return to the process one trade at a time. Do that, and you climb out.

Q

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a drawdown in futures trading?
A drawdown is a losing stretch that pulls your trading account below its recent high. In ES futures it usually looks like a run of red days or a deeper loss that dents your confidence. George stresses that drawdown is financial and emotional at once… the mental dip is what does the real damage if you let it drive your decisions.
How do I recover from a trading losing streak?
Return to your process one clean trade at a time. Manage the emotional side first, honor your daily loss limit, and take only planned Battle Plan setups instead of hunting a hero trade to win it all back. George describes climbing “straight out of draw down, back on my feet” by finding his lane again, and treats a single win that redeems yesterday’s loss as the turning point.
Why do most traders quit during a drawdown?
Most traders read a drawdown as failure rather than a test, and they can’t sit with the discomfort of the losing feeling. George teaches that the market only beats those who stop showing up, and that most people give up right before they would have broken through. Perseverance separates the traders who make it from the ones who blow accounts.
Is a losing trade the same as failing as a trader?
No. George draws a hard line between falling and being cast headlong into destruction. A stop-out inside your planned risk is a stumble you get up from. Ruin comes from breaking your rules… oversizing, revenge trading, or blowing past your loss limit. Treating every stop like a catastrophe burns traders out unnecessarily.
How long does it take to become a profitable trader?
Far longer than most beginners expect. George tells a two-month member that two months is no time to judge whether you’ll succeed. Trading is a craft like carpentry, painting, or programming, and none of those get learned quickly. Don’t evaluate your career from the bottom of an early drawdown.
How do I stop repeating the same bad trade?
George’s honest answer is that real change usually comes through pain. You repeat the mistake until you get sick and tired of being sick and tired, then you either quit or you change… and once you change, good trading becomes easy. Logging the repeated mistake in a trading journal speeds up that reckoning so the drawdown teaches its lesson faster.
