Be in the Preparation Business, Not the Prediction Business
Nobody predicts the market. You prepare for it… map the trade before it happens, and let the work pay you.
2022–2026
Preparation beats prediction. The prediction business asks the wrong question… which way will the market go tomorrow? Nobody knows. The preparation business asks a better one: where are my trades, and what do I do when price arrives? George maps the levels before the session and lets the market come to the plan.
“Don’t be in the prediction business. Be in the preparation business. Map out your trades before they happen.”
This page gathers the philosophy underneath George’s whole routine across hundreds of live ES E-mini futures and MES micro futures sessions… why screen time builds the skill, how a sharp axe beats brute force, and why the plans of the diligent lead to profit.
Thousands of Hours of Butt Time
Where does the skill come from? Screen time. George’s phrase for it is blunt… butt time. The ability to call a risky short in real time, to read price action at one trade location versus another, comes from sitting in the seat and watching the ES chart for thousands of hours. No shortcut exists.
“Thousands of hours of butt time on the ES chart. Calling out a risky short here.”
It runs deeper than staring at a screen. George draws the line himself… “it’s just more butt time observing price action in different trade locations, you know? It’s not just watching price action” (May 22, 2026). You study how price behaves at your Strong Levels. Same day, he boiled the prescription down to four words: “More butt time on the chart.”
The math is simple. More hours in the seat means sharper reads and cleaner plans.
“The more hours you have on the seat, the better you’re going to get at seeing price action. The better you’re going to get at mapping out your own Battle Plan trades.”
That skill did not fall out of the sky. George reminds traders their edge was forged… “The hours you’ve invested learning to read price action, the discipline you’ve cultivated through countless losing trades, the risk management principles you’ve internalized. These didn’t happen by accident” (May 17, 2026). Every good read you make was paid for in hours. The timeline for learning day trading runs on exactly this fuel.
Sharpen Your Axe
Working harder with dull tools wastes strength. George frames it through Ecclesiastes… sharpen your axe. Pause before the session. Refine your analysis. Check your emotional state. That pause multiplies every swing that follows.
“If the axe is dull and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength. But wisdom brings success.”
For a trader, the axe is the plan. “The wise trader knows a sharp axe equals a sharp plan” (Jan 18, 2026). Sharpening looks like this in practice… pausing to sharpen your edge, refining your analysis, preparing with discipline, and checking your emotional state before you enter the markets. Do that work up front and every trade decision gets easier.
Why does preparation carry such weight? Because it compounds. Solomon understood that preparation multiplies effectiveness. Invest an hour in the right prep and every hour after it works harder. That is the whole case for a written trading plan and a pre-flight checklist before the open.
“True wisdom means pausing to sharpen your edge before entering the markets.”
The Plans of the Diligent Lead to Profit
Here is the promise that ties the whole philosophy together. Careful, methodical preparation produces profit. Haste produces loss. George leans on Proverbs to say it plainly, and it lands because every trader has lived both sides of it.
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”
What does diligence actually mean here? More than grinding hours. “The Hebrew word for diligence suggests more than just hard work. It implies careful, methodical attention to detail over time” (Jan 22, 2026). Methodical attention. Over time. That is preparation, described exactly.
It shows up in the small stuff before it shows up on the scoreboard. Be faithful in the little preparations and the big moments take care of themselves… George’s own prayer runs, “Make me diligent in small preparations so I can be profitable in big moments” (Jan 22, 2026). One good mapping justifies the whole effort of showing up.
“Just that one mapping is worth, you know, being here. This is beautiful.”
And when the big winner finally lands? It was preparation meeting opportunity. George is honest about the arithmetic… “Luck + Prep = 100 Pointer!” (Nov 20, 2025). You cannot manufacture the luck. You can show up prepared so you are aboard when it arrives.
Gentlemen, This Is a Football
Preparation is the basics, repeated. George reaches for Vince Lombardi, who opened every training camp by holding up a football and saying, “Gentlemen, this is a football.” The best in the world drill the fundamentals hardest.
“Sometimes it’s the basics repeated over and over we need to hear. You know, it’s kind of famous that Vince Lombardi would start out each football camp with, ‘Gentlemen, this is a football.'”
So where does a trader start? “Demand from yourself that you execute the basics perfectly” (May 5, 2026). Fresh month, fresh start, same fundamentals. And the engine that carries you there is repetition… “trading the same process every day, getting that dialed in, exhibiting perfect patience to become the trader you were meant to be” (June 16, 2026).
“It’s a new month, May has arrived. It’s a chance for fresh start. Where do I recommend you start?”
The whole thing rides on showing up. A community member put it about as clean as it gets… “George in this community is why I can see progress. All you have to do is show up every morning and listen” (Feb 10, 2025). Show up. Run the process. Repeat.
Go to the Ant: Self-Directed Diligence
Nobody stands over your shoulder forcing you to prepare. That is the hard part and the whole point. George keeps returning to Proverbs 6 for the picture of a self-directed worker who needs no boss to stay diligent.
“This week’s scripture is Proverbs 6. Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways and be wise, which having no captain, overseer, or ruler provides her supplies in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest. Wise advice.”
The ant stores in summer and gathers at harvest with no ruler cracking the whip. That is the disciplined trader… preparing the chart when nobody is watching. The flip side is neglect, and George names that too. “When I’m tempted to become a lazy shepherd, remind me that faithful stewardship requires constant attention” (Jan 4, 2026). Your trading capital is a flock. It needs tending every session, which is the heart of good stewardship of trading capital.
George holds discipline and preparation as gifts you still have to go gather. “Discipline, patience, and wisdom are indeed God’s gifts. But we must gather them through intentional habits, prayerful preparation, studying our craft, and maintaining accountability” (Dec 21, 2025). Gifts, yes… gathered through habit. That is where faith and the daily routine meet.
| The Prediction Business | The Preparation Business |

| Chase advanced tactics | Execute the basics perfectly |
| Haste leads to poverty | Diligence leads to profit |
Showing Up Ready Is the Real Win
Chase the philosophy far enough and you arrive here. The victory is the habit of arriving prepared, session after session. George says it straight after a big result… the win was every day of preparation that made it possible.
“It represents every afternoon you showed up ready to read it. That’s the real win here. Thank you for trusting me with your screen time, your attention, and your trading trust.”
You build this the way you build any skill… with reps. Mentally trade the setups you missed. Study the trade locations that fooled you. Rehearse the mapping until it becomes reflex, a core practice from Mental Trading. Preparation also teaches you when the answer is to do nothing at all, which is the whole point of knowing when not to trade.
Stack enough prepared mornings and the results follow on their own. Stop trying to predict the next candle. Get in the preparation business and let the diligent work pay you.
