Seek First the Kingdom
You plan the trade. God directs the steps… the quiet posture that carries George into every ES futures session.
2022–2026
Trusting God with your trading means one thing: you do your part with discipline, then you release the outcome you cannot control. You seek God first, before the charts. You plan the ES E-mini futures trade with everything you know. Then you hand the result to Him. God is your provider.
“This week’s scripture Matthew 6:33. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you.”
This page gathers what George teaches about faith at the trading desk across years of live ES and MES micro futures sessions. Seeking God on purpose. Planning your way while He directs your steps. Trusting His sovereignty over every tick once your risk is set.
Seek First. Everything Else Follows.
Every week opens with scripture before a single level gets drawn. The most-repeated one is Matthew 6:33. Seek the kingdom of God first, and the rest gets added. George treats it as the order of operations for the whole session. First the heart. Then the chart.
What does it look like in practice? You come to the desk grounded. The Battle Plan still gets built. Strong Levels still get marked. But the market no longer owns your peace before the bell.
“Matthew 6:33, ‘But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you, but first seek the kingdom of God.'”
That same week, the prayer got personal. A trader leaning hard on something bigger than the next fill.
“This week’s scriptures, Matthew 6:33, but seek first the kingdom of the Lord and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Yes. Thank you. Please Lord, please.”
Set Yourself to Seek Him. On Purpose.
Seeking God is not passive. Neither is trading well. George anchors this to Jehoshaphat, a king who faced a coming army and made a deliberate choice. He feared. Then he set himself to seek the Lord and called a fast across the land. The verb matters. He set himself.
“And Jehoshaphat feared and set himself to seek the Lord and proclaimed a fast throughout Judea. Set himself to seek the Lord. It has to be intentional.”
George draws the line straight to the desk. Intention is the whole game. You do not drift into a good trade any more than you drift into faith. Both get chosen. Both get set up on purpose, the same way you build a written trading plan before the open.
“And the part that I love the most is set himself to seek the Lord. He was intentional. He did it on purpose just like your trading needs to be.”
You Plan the Way. God Directs the Steps.
Here is the heartbeat of the whole page. Proverbs 16:9. A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. It holds two truths at once. You are responsible to plan. God is sovereign over the result. Neither cancels the other.
“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”
Plan hard. Then release it. George uses this verse to unclench the grip after the setup is right, never as an excuse for a sloppy one. He prays over it daily, and he prays for correction as much as direction.
“This week’s scripture is Proverbs 16:9. A man’s heart plans his ways, but God directs his steps. And you know, I ask God every day to direct my steps.”
The daily ask goes further than a request for winners. It is a prayer to be redirected if the path is wrong at all.
“Lord, if I’m doing something I shouldn’t be doing, please convict my heart. Um, if you want me doing something completely different, if I’m not supposed to be even doing this, you know, let me know.”
And the ask ties directly to stewardship. Direction covers more than profit. It means handling the day well.
“Make sure you’re asking the Lord to direct your steps today that you’re being a good steward of the time, talent, and resources you have been given.”
Transfer the Trust. From You to Him.
Fear is the trader’s constant companion. Most cures for it fail because they lean on the same anxious self that created the fear. George names the real antidote plainly. You move the weight of trust off your own shoulders and onto God’s.
“The antidote isn’t positive thinking or forced confidence. It’s transferring trust from your own abilities to God’s sovereignty over your circumstances.”
This reframes who provides. The market does not feed your family. The chart is not your source. Careful risk management becomes an act of trust, a way of honoring the One who actually provides.
“Let my risk management reflect trust in your sovereignty, knowing that you are my provider, not the markets. May my careful planning honor you and protect the resources you’ve entrusted to me in Jesus’ name.”
That posture also redraws what success even means. Success means faithful obedience to your principles. Wait for the right ES futures opportunities. Let the rest go by.
“Help me to see that true success comes not from chasing every opportunity, but from faithful obedience to the principles you’ve given me.”
Do Your Part. Then Surrender Every Tick.
Here is where faith meets the order button. You control three things. Your size. Your location. Your timing. Get those right and your job is finished. What price does next belongs to God. George surrenders it with a line borrowed from an old movie.
“And then I’m just a twig on the shoulders of a mighty stream. If you know where that came from, John Candy in the movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.”
A twig on a mighty stream. You did your work. Now you ride the current instead of fighting it. This is the spiritual twin of a discipline George teaches everywhere else in the library, from holding a lotto runner without meddling to closing the platform and walking away. Once the plan is set, more supervision only gets in the way.
“Execute with discipline and trust that his sovereignty over every tick… trust you with the outcomes I cannot control.”
| You control | You surrender |
|---|---|
| Position size | Whether the level holds |
| Trade location | How far price runs |
| Timing and patience | The final outcome on the day |
| Discipline and obedience | Every tick after the fill |
Rest in a Faithful God, Even in the Setbacks
Trust holds up best on the hard days. When the trade fails, when the equipment breaks, when the plan gets disrupted, George reaches for the same anchor. God is faithful, and the obstacle may carry a purpose you cannot see yet.
“Know that Yahweh your God is God. The faithful God who keeps his gracious covenant loyalty for a thousand generations with those who love him and keep his commandments.”
So when a laptop fails and the tools will not load, George reacts with curiosity about the reason.
“I don’t have chart buddy on my laptop, so I can’t show you the new stuff. And it is awesome. Maybe there’s a reason. Maybe I’m supposed to tweak something. That’s how I look at it.”
That mindset rests on a foundation set every single session. The righteous live by faith. And loving God with heart, soul, and mind comes first, before any tick prints.
“Romans 1:17. For in it God’s righteousness is revealed from faith to faith. Just as it is written, the righteous will live by faith.”
Grounded there, you handle a losing trade with humility instead of panic. This is the quiet strength behind so much of the emotional discipline George coaches, and a natural companion to daily prayer and gratitude at the desk.
“Grant me the humility to accept losses, the wisdom to learn from mistakes, and the patience to wait for the right opportunities.”
