God Is Your Refuge
Drawdowns are not defeat. Your worth is not your account balance. And you are never trading alone.
2022–2026
Every trader who sits down in front of ES E-mini futures carries the same weight. Fear before the entry. The sting of a drawdown. The quiet lie that a red day makes you less of a person. George answers all three the same way. Your security comes from God’s unchanging character. That single truth steadies the hand more than any indicator ever could.
“Most importantly, faith that our ultimate security comes from not our performance, but from God’s unchanging character.”
This page gathers the faith that George shares before the open across hundreds of live ES and MES micro futures sessions. This is the scripture he reads, the prayers he prays, and the truths he leans on when the market shakes. Read it whether you trade alongside him or trade on your own.
God Is Our Refuge and Strength
George opens week after week on the same rock. Psalm 46:1. God is a refuge and a very present help in trouble. He reads it because he believes it, and because trouble finds every futures day trader eventually. A refuge is a place you run to when the storm hits. In trading, the storm is the drawdown, the losing streak, the day nothing works.
“So this week’s scripture, Psalm 46:1, God is our refuge and strength. Yes, he is a very present help in trouble. Absolutely 100% agree.”
A refuge is a very present help. George reads Exodus the same way. The Lord himself will fight for you… you only have to stay calm. He is careful about what that promise actually says. It is not a promise that the hard days disappear.
“The promise isn’t that we’ll never face Red Sea moments. The promise is that we don’t face them alone. The same God who parted waters and confused armies is actively engaged in our daily struggles, including our trading challenges.”
Sit with that before you place a single order. The refuge is presence. Company in the fight. It is the same steadiness George brings to prayer and gratitude for traders and to the way he handles a losing trade without flinching.
Drawdowns Are Not Defeat
Drawdowns are not defeat. George names it plainly, straight off the verse of the day. Though he falls, he shall not be cast down. You can be down. You can be in trouble. You can be staring at a red account. None of that makes you defeated. A fall is a moment. Defeat is a verdict. Scripture refuses the verdict.
“Verse of the day, ‘Though he falls, he shall not be cast down.’ Drawdowns are not defeat.”
Why does this matter for how you trade tomorrow? Because a trader who feels defeated trades scared. He revenge trades. He sizes up to win it all back. He breaks his own rules by lunch. A trader who knows a drawdown is temporary can Stand Down, close the day flat, and come back clean. The verse protects your process, not just your feelings.
“You might be in trouble, down, but you are not defeated.”
And when the fall is behind you, do not camp there. George reaches for Isaiah on the days a missed trade or a red session tries to follow him into tomorrow… forget the former things, do not dwell on the past, for God is doing something new. Learn the lesson through mental trading and review, then let it go.
“Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See, I’m doing something new. It’s true.”
Your Worth Is Not Your P&L
Here is the trap that catches good traders. The account balance becomes the scoreboard for the whole person. Green day, you are worthy. Red day, you are worthless. George rejects that math flatly. Your life is more than your account balance. Your value as a person is not set by your trading results, and it never was.
“Your life is more than your account balance. Your life value isn’t determined by your trading account.”
So George grounds his identity somewhere the market cannot touch. In God. He prays it out loud before the open. Ground my identity in you, not in my trading results, so I can maintain discipline through every season. The disciplined traders he watches share that anchor… they know their worth is not tied to the number on the screen.
“They know their worth isn’t tied to their P&L. Ground my identity in you, not in my trading results, so I can maintain discipline through every season.”
Notice the payoff runs deeper than comfort. It builds discipline. When your identity is secure, you stop trading to prove something. You can take the loss, honor the stop, and walk away Green Over Greed. George says he is even grateful he was never made rich or famous… he has watched that kind of wealth breed a false sense that a man can never fall.
“I wouldn’t want to be that type of wealthy. Honestly, I wouldn’t. I can’t imagine the temptations that come at them in every way and they think they can never fall.”
Which one is worth more? The balance in the account, or the fact that God is with you? George puts the question to himself in front of the whole room. The way you answer it shapes every trade after. It is the same soil that grows stewardship of your trading capital and a realistic view of day trading income.
“Which one’s more valuable? Your account balance or that God is with you?”
God Promises Presence, Not the Absence of Fear
Read the promise carefully. George does. God promises to be with you inside the fear, and that changes how you handle the moment your hand hovers over the keyboard, unsure whether to hold or fold.
“Notice God doesn’t promise the absence of fear or uncertainty. He promises his presence through it. Remind me that you are with me in every trade, every drawdown, and every decision.”
So fear will show up. Expect it. The point is that fear does not get to drive. George leans on Isaiah for this one, and he repeats it so it sticks. Fear does not have to control your decisions. God promises to strengthen you in the exact moment your hand hovers over the keyboard.
“Isaiah reminds us that fear doesn’t have to control our decisions. I’m going to say that again. Isaiah reminds us that fear does not have to control our decisions. God promises to strengthen us in the moments when our hands hover over the keyboard, unsure whether to hold or fold.”
Where does that confidence come from? From a promise God made first. Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. George reads those words as pure encouragement to start the trading day… and he is not shy about how much they lift him.
“Today’s verse is from Isaiah, it’s a word of encouragement. Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Oh, are those words encouraging.”
David knew this firsthand. He wrote Psalm 56 while literally running for his life, and still found that trust and danger can share the same breath. That is the psychology side of this whole page… the discipline of choosing faith over fear at the moment of decision. George works the trading half of it in Trading Without Fear: Faith Over Fear.
“David wrote this Psalm while literally running for his life from his enemies. Yet he discovered a profound truth. Fear doesn’t have to control our actions.”
Forgive Yourself After a Red Day
Most traders know the verse about being kind, compassionate, and forgiving to one another. George adds a line that most people skip right over. Extend that same kindness to yourself. Forgive yourself too, especially after a red day, a broken rule, or a runner you let slip.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ. I would just expand that a little bit… to be kind and compassionate to yourself, be forgiving to yourself as well.”
Why does self-forgiveness belong in a trading lesson? Because the trader who beats himself up after a loss is the trader most likely to lose again. Shame spirals into revenge trades. Forgiveness closes the loop. You made a mistake, you owned it, you learned from it, and now you are clean for the next session. That is professional. It pairs with the discipline of being a professional loser.
George and his wife carry a phrase for the overwhelming moments. It is well. Two words, learned from 2 Kings, repeated on purpose whenever something threatens to swamp them. Say it after a stopped-out runner. Say it when the calendar looks ugly. It is well.
“My wife and I for the last couple weeks have been repeating what we learned in 2 Kings, ‘It is well.’ Anytime there’s something that we just maybe become a little overwhelmed with, ‘It is well.'”
“Do not boast so proudly or let arrogant words come out of your mouth. For the Lord is a God of knowledge and actions are weighed by him. Ain’t that beautiful? So powerful. I absolutely love it.”
